At the same time as creating high-tech production facilities, Shchekinoazot JSC is ensuring that the maximum volume of industrial effluents is cleaned, including from production facilities that are to be put into operation in the coming years and in the future, by building new treatment facilities. Modern membrane technology will be used.
The membrane bioreactor scheme has several advantages over the classical one: a small area, resistant to volley discharge of waste water that occurs in any chemical production facilities, and also, which is very important for a developing company like Shchekinoazot, the possibility of increasing capacity to 20 % without additional capital construction.
The scheme is reliable, flexible, highly efficient and, in addition, effluents treated at these facilities ensure high microbiological safety for bacteria and viruses. All this makes it possible to provide an almost complete return of treated waste water to replenish the water circulation cycles. After these facilities are commissioned, the company's waste waters will be fully cleaned at the treatment facilities before discharge into the water body.
Emissions are constantly monitored in Shchekinoazot and on the border of the sanitary protection zone, and the monitoring results at all levels show that the company does not have a significant environmental impact. The maximum permissible concentration of contaminants is not exceeded in the ambient air at the border of the company's sanitary protection zone, under the "torch", in the groundwaters of observation wells and the soil around the solid waste disposal sites. Over the past year, Shchekinoazot's atmospheric emissions amounted to 0.8 % of the "gross" emission of companies in Tula region.
Every four to five years the company invests 280 - 330 million roubles in environmental measures. Thanks to the implementation of a series of environmental measures and the renewal of production facilities, over the last 5 years the volume of production waste has decreased by 31 %, emissions of harmful substances into the air have fallen by more than 20 %, the consumption of river water on the company's industrial site has decreased by 51 %, water disposal by 25 %, and discharge into water bodies decreased by almost 28 %.
Today, the company's management has adopted a program for the reconstruction of the purification and neutralisation of the industrial waste water department with the aim of increasing the stability and reliability of work with increasing the consumption of processed waste water, taking into account the construction of new production facilities. The volume of allocated funds for a small unit is quite impressive – almost 112 million roubles. Work is scheduled to end in 2020.
The programme provides for: the construction of a new radial settling tank; major repairs of the main equipment – aerotanks, whose normal functioning the life of the main "cleaners", bacteria, depend on; the purchase and replacement of two air superchargers, overhaul of filters and primary settling tanks, acquisition and installation of agitating devices in the reactor. And an operation such as the transfer of the biologically purified discharge disinfection system from liquid chlorine to ultraviolet radiation will have a very positive effect on the environment, and will prevent the harmful impact of organochlorine compounds on water bodies.
