AK-270/AS-340 COMPLEX: EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION IN PROGRESS[26.08.2021]
The nitric acid/ammonium nitrate production complex is an investment project being implemented in parallel with the construction of the third methanol facility. The launch of the M-500 unit will soon be followed by the commissioning of AK-270/AC-340.
The installation of the process racks is nearing completion, with over 90 per cent done to date. The fitting process is in progress, as over 80 per cent of technological equipment supplied by the Chinese partner SEDIN has already been installed. Almost 90 per cent of equipment has been installed overall.
No construction site ever avoided difficulties in coordinating the implemented construction solutions with the installation of equipment, piping, ventilation systems, cable racks, and service platforms. The AK/AS complex has a fairly dense layout, which determines the complexity of solutions to provide access to the maintenance points of process equipment and shut-off valves. Therefore, difficult engineering solutions have to be found at the installation stage.
Another challenging issue was the execution of general construction works, in particular the laying of acid-proof tiles at all stations of the ammonium nitrate production department, due to the very large scope of work. In cooperation with the general contractor, technical solutions to reduce labour intensity were adopted. The contractor expanded the construction team, and the work intensified.
Today, a new task is at the forefront, which is cable laying and installation of electrical and I&A equipment. A large amount of cable laying work must be completed within a tight time frame both on the intra-workshop rack and in the production facilities. The contractor's limited resources remain the bottleneck. In fact, today, the same operations including the installation of metal structures, pipelines, equipment; general construction, electrical, and I&A works are being performed both at AK/AS and M-500.
The main challenge at the moment is to install process pipelines, test them, lay cables, install control systems, and close the thermal loops of the buildings. It is necessary to set up the heating in the buildings, so work can be carried out there during the cold season.
The AK/AS complex, like others being built at the Shchekinoazot site, is a unique project. Our nitric acid unit is the first of its kind in Russia.
No one in the world has yet applied the technological scheme of fluidised bed nitrate granulation. This method allows for obtaining a premium quality product. Harder granules of adjustable size and the possibility of adding microelements to the nitrate mean the prospect of a wider product line in the sector that is in high demand in the market today.
